Music can be magic; at times it feels like a song was almost written especially for you, as if the songwriter knew your situation and wrote directly to you. Of course I realise this cannot be true but it is always special finding those songs which spur you on, with messages that make sense to you. And it’s a funny thing when you feel like you really get a song or that the song actually really gets you!
Songs can evoke all sorts of emotions in us and seem to provide a fitting soundtrack to our everyday lives. Sadness or heartbreak, happiness and joy can all be embedded in music. I used to revel a little bit in the sad tunes but it was a bittersweet thing. I didn’t enjoy being sad but the music kept me company in those moments and I found that helpful.
I want ‘Awaken’ to be the kind of company for some people that need a lift. It is a song about looking around and noticing the good that is present and always has been there. It’s a song about my own process as a human; trying to stay optimistic and strong and wake up to the world unfolding around.
I haven’t shared any music recordings in over 3 years so I am excited / nervous to put it up but it’s a positive message I’m sending out so I’m ready to pass it on.
